Name : Datin Paduka Hajah Salmah binti Haji Hanafiah (FCCA)

 

Appointment as Auditor
General

 

: Deputy Auditor General since 1994, and confirmed as Auditor General on 19 December 2002.
Qualification : 1. Certificate of the Association of Certified Accountants

2. Member of the Association of Chartered Accountants

    Fellow Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).

 

Work Experience : Started her career with the Brunei Treasury in 1975 where she held various position such as Accountant, Senior Accountant, Senior Assistant Director of  Financial Services and while working in Treasury she was also assigned on several occasions acting as Secretary to The Brunei Currency Board.  The last position she held before being transferred to Audit Department in 1992 was Senior Assistant Director of Financial Services. 

Datin Paduka Hajah Salmah served as Assistant Auditor General for 2 years before being promoted to Deputy Auditor General in 1994.  She has played a key role in the Office's strategic planning, policy and capacity building.  One of the first priorities after taking over as The Auditor General was to initiate restructuring of the organization in line with the new mandate for the Auditor General to audit government owned companies and statutory bodies.

She has attended several international conferences and seminars organized by INTOSAI, ASOSAI, CONTOSAI as well as Asian Federation of Accountants.

Datin Paduka Hajah Salmah is a fellow of The Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants of England and Wales having obtained ACCA in 1975 and admitted as member in 1979.

Appointment of Auditor General
  The Constitution of Brunei Darussalam Sec. 66:
   
66(1) The Auditor General is appointed by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
   
66(3) The Auditor General of Brunei Darussalam may at any time resign his office, but shall not be removed from his office except in the like grounds and in the like manner as a member of the Public Service Commission.
   
  The Auditor General shall hold office during His Majesty the Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan's pleasure, but he may at any time resign his office.
   
   


Audit Reports


  The constitution of Brunei Darussalam Section 68 and Audit Act Chapter 152, Setion 9:
9(7) The Auditor General may at any time submit a report to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan.
